Supporting WestK / General Questions

The Foundation was set up in 2019 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) which is compatible with the provisions of Section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance (IRO). It has a charitable status under section 88 and our registration no. is  91/16304. Donation amount of HK$100 and above will be entitled to tax receipts which can be used to offset Hong Kong Salaries Tax. The Foundation Board functions as the primary governing body for all fundraising activities at WestK.

The West Kowloon Cultural District Foundation Board is made up of six members: Mr Henry FAN Hung-ling, SBS, JP (Chairman), the Honourable Henry TANG Ying-yen, GBM, GBS, JP (Member), the Honourable Bernard Charnwut CHAN, GBS, JP (Member), Professor Douglas SO Cheung-tak, BBS, JP (Member), Ms Wendy LEE (Member) and Mrs Betty FUNG Ching Suk-yee, Chief Executive Officer of the WKCDA (Ex-officio Member).

  • The Foundation was established with two aims: advancing education and cultural development and education to benefit the wider Hong Kong community; and supporting the charitable activities of the WestK.
  • All the donation is going to the West Kowloon Cultural District Foundation (a registered charity which is exempt from Hong Kong Profits Tax under section 88 of the Inland Revenue Ordinance (IRO)).
  • Unless the designation of fund is specified in the gift agreement or a special campaign, all donation goes to the development of arts and cultural programs of West Kowloon and the daily operation of venues.

In 2008, the HKSAR Government approved an upfront endowment of HK$21.6 billion for buildings and facilities construction, and excludes programs and operations.

Donors may select areas they wish to support, be it M+, Hong Kong Palace Museum or Performing Arts, down to the specific program under each area.   Unless the designation of donation is specified in a gift agreement or special campaign, other donations can be directed to areas and programs under different venues.  These programs span a spectrum of learning initiatives to curatorial endowment.
